WALDGEIST places third in G1 Prince Of Wales Stakes

A trip across the English Channel took Andre Fabre-trained WALDGEIST to contend in the GBP750,000 highlight of the Royal Ascot card today, the 2000 m Prince of Wales Stakes, and given the grim conditions the Galileo-son generated a pleasing result. With his constant companion Pierre-Charles Boudot on board, WALDGEIST ran a solid race from the rear of midfield on heavy turf that had been hammered by continuous rain for days and, entering the final stretch, the colt drew from his usual long-drawn speed. Although he could not catch the triumphant winner (Crystal Ocean) and his Irish serial winner runner-up (Magical) he fought with plenty of heart for a strong third place.
